Tres Generaciones Tequila: A Family Legacy and a Triple Treat
We recently acquired a bottle of Tres Generaciones Tequila. Not only is the bottle gorgeous (Its a dark green, when you hold it in the light), the tequila is delish. We wanted to dive just a little deeper into the history behind Tres Generaciones Tequila. It’s not just a drink; it’s a story of a family and a craft passed down through generations. Let’s dive in!
A Family Affair: The History
It all started when a man named Cenobio Sauza (Sound familiar tequila fans?) started making tequila. He was the first of three generations of the Sauza family to master this craft.
- Cenobio Sauza: The founder of the Sauza Tequila brand in 1873. He was known as the “Father of Tequila” for his passion and innovation.
- Eladio Sauza: Cenobio’s son, who took over in 1909. He expanded the business, making tequila known worldwide.
- Francisco Javier Sauza: Eladio’s son, who continued the legacy. He created Tres Generaciones to honor his family’s tradition.
Tres Generaciones means “Three Generations,” and it’s a tribute to these three master distillers.
Making Tequila: A Simple Guide
Imagine making juice, but with a few extra steps. That’s how tequila is made! Here’s how Tres Generaciones does it:
- Pick the Agave: It’s a plant that looks like a giant pineapple. They take the heart of it, called the “piña.”
- Cook the Piña: They bake it to make it sweet and soft.
- Squish It: Just like squishing grapes for juice, they squish the piña to get the juice out.
- Ferment It: They let the juice sit until it becomes a little bubbly.
- Distill It Three Times: Imagine boiling the juice and catching the steam. They do this three times to make it super smooth.
The Tres Generaciones Types
- Plata: Fresh and lively, like a dance party in a glass.
- Reposado: Rested and relaxed, like a cozy nap in a hammock.
- Añejo: Wise and rich, like a grandpa telling stories by the fire.
